Cinema 2000
Renovation work on "Cinema 2000" began in February 2023 with the dismantling of the almost 12.50 metre high marquee dome. The striking orange and yellow striped supporting structure was used as a 180-degree cinema until the park was closed. It is one of the park's landmarks and is also historical heritage. After the closure of the former leisure park, both the historic cinema projector and the walls of the cinema dome were destroyed by vandalism. Until the site was transferred to Grün Berlin in 2016, the construction, which is now over 30 years old, was exposed to wind and weather and is no longer safe to use.
The first step was to dismantle the dilapidated and leaking dome roof. The exposed tubular steel construction was also dismantled. It is now being stored on site and protected from the weather.
In the interests of sustainability, it is planned to reuse the metal supporting structure. The components have already been examined as part of an as-built inspection and their suitability for refurbishment has been confirmed. Once the refurbishment is complete, the dome will be rebuilt in the future Spreepark at the West Entrance. Once re-roofed, it will serve as an exhibition and event venue for art and culture.
